Custom Consulting

Ziff Energy’s E & P Group provides custom consulting services to upstream operating companies and the service sector, applying our unique performance benchmarking and best practices to improving company operations. Our large and detailed database provides access to information not available from any other consulting firm. We support E & P companies in their strategic planning initiatives (portfolio analysis) and field operations improvement, and service companies in their market development.

Reducing Field Operating Costs (RFOC)

Oil & gas fields are the basic building blocks of all oil & gas companies. Benchmarking has uncovered large savings. Today, large untapped savings may be realized at the field and operations level. Ziff Energy has completed numerous offshore and onshore studies throughout the Americas, and internationally. In analyzing and comparing field level operations, we have compiled an extensive database of operating costs and best practices across a wide range of oil and gas producing areas.

Offering Solutions If You Need …

  • quick and direct cost reduction
  • insights into “leader” operating practices to improve performance
  • to increase profits, but staff time is scarce

Leader Best Operating Practices

To further assist you in reducing operating costs and increasing production volumes, we have developed a number of processes to identify leader practices. These processes are practical and successful – clients say our approaches are more in-depth, technical and rigorous than other cost studies.

Finding & Development

Ziff Energy Group has been performing Finding & Development Cost benchmarking in Western Canada annually since 1987. The methodologies and analysis pioneered in Canada were introduced in 1999 into the offshore environment of the U.S. Ziff Energy completed two editions of a strategy for 7 areas on the Gulf of Mexico Shelf & Slope. The firm is also currently evaluating this type of strategy analysis for other regions of the world.

Benchmarking Offshore Operations

Analyze Your Operations against the World’s Largest Offshore Field Cost Database

Compare your fields to fields in the Gulf of Mexico / Caribbean Shelf operated by more than a dozen E&P companies which produce 80+% of Shelf production. The Ziff Energy database also includes international offshore Shelf fields. Our studies compare field operating costs (20 categories) for each of your fields to peer fields.

Our studies also include extensive analysis of best operating practices and key drivers of costs.

Drilling & Completion

Drilling and completion costs are the largest single component of onshore Finding and Development Costs. Ziff Energy Group recently completed benchmarking drilling and completion costs for wells drilled in South Texas. This study is also focusing on best drilling practices. Wells were categorized into peer groups based upon degree of drilling difficulty:

  • Normal Pressure Shallow
  • Normal Pressure Deep
  • Over Pressured Shallow
  • Deep Over & Under Pressured
  • Over Pressured Deep
  • Directional Normal Pressure Deep
  • Directional Over Pressured Deep
  • Deep Directional Over & Under Pressured

G&A/People Productivity

Corporate-level people counts don't deliver the precision of HR information required for today’s competitive high performance. Ziff Energy’s People Productivity Study for Western Canada applied a unique approach of measuring staff requirements at the level of Business Unit (or Focus Team), by type of BU, and by type of strategy (growth or harvest).

The combination of quantitative metrics and qualitative best practices provided quality information for clients to judge their current competitive position and assess which shifts in size and approach are necessary to be an industry leader.
