Ziff Energy analyzed the operating costs of oil and gas assets in onshore Europe for a large Independent and gas company against similar fields in North and South America. The diagnosis pinpointed cost areas needing improvement and quantified the savings available if these costs are lowered to 'best in class' levels. The Ziff Energy team reviewed the operating practices in use, and provided the details of replacement operating practices that will lead the company toward more efficient and low cost operations. Based upon the specific recommendations around well automation installation, the client contracted Ziff Energy to provide an automation project checklist, as determined by recent experience of leading, low-cost companies. This checklist was used by the client to learn from the experience of other companies and prevent costly errors in equipment design, the bid process, installation, and system usage.

To measure improvement efforts over time, Ziff Energy has installed our Performance Monitoring Tool (PMT) on each company's intranet.

For an offshore operator of a 'prolific gas well' in the Caribbean, we assisted them by identifying actions to achieve improved operations and future reliability. With prolific wells, low cost does not necessarily mean 'Best-in-Class', and operators of this type of production need to assess opportunities via benchmarking their performance relative to peers to learn how to improve and maintain the reliability/efficiency of their operations. They also need to do this to stay world class as their prolific field matures, but also to avoid - by spending more now - potential 'train wrecks' that could jeopardize production volumes in the future.

We first completed a performance review of various equipment and software available for Well Automation. After, Ziff Energy was asked to survey product pricing and service contract negotiations. Focus was placed on the negotiated hardware/software and service agreement prices of operators in the Permian Basin and Western Canada. The information proved valuable to the client in assembling their bid package for well automation and services. The client indicated the cost/performance analysis in Ziff Energy's Field Automation Review exceeded their expectations.

For a far Eastern E&P Company, we assisted in planning the future operations for a very large oil field development by providing a comparison against peer operating fields in Ziff Energy's database. The objective was to assist the company with its development plan to position the field to achieve Best-in-Class operations over the field's entire life cycle. We defined the specific metrics and main operating cost drivers to be analyzed and monitored, and identified and defined best practices for Best-in-Class positioning of the field with the development plan.

Ziff Energy was commissioned to design and implement a cost model based on production, finding and development, and transportation costs for each of the basins in the country. Ziff Energy's team of experienced geologists, petroleum engineers, and economists characterized 18 basins taking in consideration the geology of the basin, geography, environmental issues, technical challenges, infrastructure, and transportation networks. By implementing the cost model, the agency was able to visualize not only the differences of costs between basins, but also their cost components. The model was valuable to promote and negotiate new E&P contracts, benchmarking in the process the country's competitiveness.

A trio of companies in South America engaged Ziff Energy to conduct a cost benchmarking and field efficiency analysis of their fields. Based on the opportunities identified in Phase 1 of the project, Ziff Energy designed a modular approach to assist each company to capture potential savings. Phase 2 of the project included implementing best practices (i.e. well servicing, surface maintenance), optimizing material management, and identifying potential synergies between the three companies. To augment the success of the project, each company established internal benchmarking teams and Ziff Energy provided comprehensive training for their leaders and team members. To measure performance and progress on the improvement initiatives, Ziff Energy is providing its Performance Monitoring Tool (PMT).
